GAME CHANGER | SM City Davao continues to provide safe malling experience and give back to communities for two decades now

THE southern part of the city was once quaint with rustic environment, different from the busy downtown streets. Vehicles, except for buses and those that wanted to escape from traffic, rarely traversed within Ecoland.

The opening of SM City Davao on Nov. 17, 2001 eventually changed the landscape and paved way for further development in the site.

Commercial establishments mushroomed in neighboring areas while public utility jeepneys were re-routed to include Ecoland as part of their course. Tourists as well never missed to include the mall as part of their bucket list.

It has morphed into a one-stop shop destination with essentials and services while championing green initiatives like having regular “Trash to Cash” and environment-friendly projects.

Pioneer tenants

Pioneering establishments, which have been in SM City Davao since 20 years ago, include SM Supermarket, Toy Kingdom, Watsons, BDO, SM Appliance Center, National Bookstore, Chowking, Executive Optical, Ideal Vision Center, Jenden Beauty Center, and Lito Sy Studio.

Petco, Artwork, Bench, Broadway Gems, Dencio’s Kamayan, Dunkin Donuts, Greenwich, Jollibee, Loalde, Mandarin Tea Garden, and Le Jean de Marithe Francois Girbaud are also in the mall from the start.

Giving back to communities

In partnership with SM Foundation and SM Cares, SM gives back to communities through having meaningful projects including programs on providing proper education, sustaining greening efforts, helping the farmers, and assisting in healthcare endeavors.

SM also helps in providing assistance like food and water for families who were greatly affected by disasters.

Exciting times ahead

New projects and fresh concepts are expected soon within SM City Davao. There will be more wide spaces for offices, restaurants, and stores.
