Two condom-dispersing machines will soon be installed at the City Council.
One machine will be placed in each of the two male comfort rooms at the Sangguniang Panlungsod building.
City Population Chief Jeffrey Fuentes said the condom-dispersing machine is part of the City Health Office’s endeavor on reproductive health especially among adolescents.
The CHO sees the condom-dispersing machines to cut the rise of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and other sexually-related problems in the city.
Fuentes, in an interview, said the availability of condoms in markets does not do much as some buyers are not comfortable being seen buying condoms in commercial centers, including pharmacy.
This is especially because contraceptive use among adolescents is still considered taboo in the country.
According to Fuentes, there is a higher acceptability among adolescents in the use of condoms.
He asks everyone for a shift of perspectives on the contraceptive use, from being taboo to a responsible and practical act.
Still on its experimental phase, the condom-dispersing machine is set to provide easier access to sexually-active individuals as it is veered away from the judgement of the society.
The condoms at the dispersing machine will not be for free but will have a generally lower price from those in the markets.
