FIRST District Representative Paolo Duterte officially took his oath of office on Friday, May 23, marking the beginning of his third and final term in the House of Representatives. The ceremony, held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, was an intimate gathering attended by family members, close friends, and loyal supporters.
Joining him in the oath-taking were Second District Representative Vincent Omar Duterte, Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat (PPP) Partylist Representative Harold Duterte, and City Councilor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II.
In his speech, Paolo thanked the people of Davao for their unwavering support—not only for him but also for his family, especially his father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He described his father as his “greatest mentor and inspiration in public service.”
The lawmaker also acknowledged the trials their family has endured, particularly during and after the presidency of the elder Duterte.
“Ang among ikabalik lamang sa inyong suporta ang among tinud-anay nga pagserbisyo. Daghang kaayong salamat (Our only way of giving back for your support is through our sincere service. Thank you very much),” he said, vowing sincere and continued service in return for the public’s trust.
Looking ahead, Rep. Duterte reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots-focused initiatives, with legislative priorities centered on education, healthcare, and livelihood programs for underserved communities.
As he embarks on his final term, he intends to “finish strong” and build a legacy of public service grounded in the values instilled in him by his father.
“I carry not just my name but also a duty — to prove that leadership is earned every day through genuine service,” he added.
The oath was administered by Judge Jill Rose S. Jaugan-Lo, associate justice of The Court of Appeals of the Philippines, with his children, mother Elizabeth Zimmerman, and a life-size standee of former President Duterte standing by his side.
Paolo, Rigo, and Omar were proclaimed winners by the Davao City Board of Canvassers on May 13, along with the incoming Mayor Rody Duterte, Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, and members of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod.
