DTI to businesses: Wait for holiday SRP

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI advised against displaying noche buena promo grocery items until the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is released.

“Groceries cannot start displaying noche buena products and selling them in regular prices as there is no SRP yet released from the national level,” said Czar Raul Bulaclac, DTI XI acting head of Consumer Protection Division.

According to the official, the DTI Central Office has not yet released the SRPs for popular holiday products such as spaghetti and macaroni.

He also added that consumers should always look for promo permits.

“Kung sale po siya, dapat tiningnan po natin if they have this promo permit,” he said.

Bulaclac said that busineses in the city should strictly follow the suggested retail prices of noche buena products, basic necessities and prime commodities to avoid fines and penalties.

Meanwhile, Christopher Dalhog DTI XI City information officer for consumer protection, said they have started going around retail stores in the city since October 28 to 30.

Dalhog said most of the establishments monitored so far were compliant with rules on selling items such as Christmas lights.

The DTI also advised consumers to look for Philippine Standard (PS) Quality Mark and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers.

He said they have provided the retail establishments with a list of approved brands of Christmas lights.

Dalhog added that they will conduct random monitoring of the product in the succeeding weeks.
