Drug recidivist arrested anew

A drug convict was arrested anew in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Crossing Bayabas, Toril District on Thursday at 4:20 p.m.

Major Ricky Obenza, the Tugbok Police Station commander, identified the suspect as Haron Akmad Malang, 30, married, jobless and resident of St. Joseph Homes, Barangay Sirawan, Toril District.

Obenza said Malang was previously convicted in a drug case.

Malang was detained at the city jail in Barangay Ma-a, Talomo District for an unstated period and was released last March 13, 2019 after entering a plea bargaining to avail a lesser penalty, Obenza said.

However, police monitored that Malang returned to his illegal trade as he was again reported to be distributing drugs in the city.

“He was long been under surveillance,” Obenza said, adding that the suspect was “hard to chase.”

He said Malang, while selling drugs in the whole city, frequented the areas of Tugbok and Toril, both in the third congressional district.

After they established contact with the suspect, a buy-bust operation was immediately conducted by the Tugbok Police and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) along the national highway of Purok 11 in Crossing Bayabas.

During the transaction, Malang sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover police officer.

Police seized three other sachets of suspected shabu with estimated value of P240,000 from the suspect.

Charges are now prepared against the suspect, who is now detained at the Tugbok Police Station.

In Buhangin, three drug suspects were also arrested.

Capt. Rosario Aguilar, the spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said Buhangin police arrested the three men in a buy-bust operation in Laverna Hills, Barangay Alfonso Angliongto Sr., Buhangin District at 12:02 pm.

Aguilar identified the suspects as Ruel Porio, 23, single, construction worker; Oliver Escoton, 40, male, married, habal-habal driver, and Ruel Calunia, single, construction worker. All are residents of Punad Village in Barangay Alfonso Angliongto Sr.

Confiscated from the possession of Porio were two sachets of shabu, estimated to worth P50,000.

The Buhangin Police Station conducted the operation after an informant tipped them on the illegal trade of the suspects.
