Death squads creation of media: Senator Bato

SENATOR Ronald Dela Rosa denied the existence of the DDS, or “Davao Death Squad,” during a press conference at the AFAD 30th Defense and Sporting Arms Show on Wednesday in SMX Lanang.

He also stated that there is no “reward system” for killing individuals involved in drugs.

Dela Rosa claimed that the concept of the DDS was created by the media, adding that during his tenure as police director in Davao City, no such group existed.

Retired Police Colonel Royina Garma noted that Dela Rosa has common knowledge of the Davao Death Squad.

“As I have said, I have been very consistent: the Davao Death Squad is a creation of the media. If anyone accuses me, they should provide evidence,” he stated. “As far as I am concerned, I do not tolerate the Davao Death Squad. If I catch anyone involved, I will file charges. I am known in Davao as a police officer who does not spare anyone committing crimes.”

In the recent hearing, Garma informed the House QuadComm about her experiences with the cash rewards system for killing crime suspects during her time as a police officer in Davao City.

Just two weeks ago, she told the four committees investigating the Duterte administration’s war on drugs that former President Rodrigo Duterte wanted the nationwide implementation of the Davao model, which involved monetary rewards for killing drug personalities.

Garma indicated that the DDS was common knowledge among officers, as nearly all station commanders had special teams designated for specific operations.
