THE DAVAO Light and Power Co., Inc. issued a one-time refund of P3.3759 for every kilowatt per hour (kWh) to its residential customers for their Aug. 11- Sept. 10 billing statement.
Rodger Velasco, Davao Light president and COO, said this was due to the downtrend in the cost of electricity starting from January to June 2023 resulting in over-recoveries of collection for the six-month period.
“This is good news to the customers of Davao Light. Following a power rate reduction in July, we will have a significantly lower billing in the next month’s billing. This will be deducted from the customer’s bill,” Velasco said.
The refund follows the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Resolution No. 14 of 2022, also known as “A Resolution Adopting the Revised Rules Governing the Automatic Cost Adjustment and True-Up Mechanisms and Corresponding Confirmation Process for Distribution Utilities,” which updated the regulation on over and under recovery of pass-through charges collected by distribution utilities.
A residential customer who consumes 200kWh will enjoy a deduction of P675 for the said billing cycle.
Apart from the residential customers, Velasco said other Davao Light customers such as the commercial and industrial, will also receive a refund amount depending on their classification.
However, Velasco stressed that this is only a one-time refund which is only applied to the said billing cycle and will go back to normal regular billing for the following months.
Those customers who will receive the Sept. 11 billing are expected to see a one-line adjustment on their billing statement.
“We reiterate that market prices are volatile thus monthly changes in the power rates are expected,” Velasco said.
Velasco reminded the public to properly manage power consumption and conserve energy to lower their electricity bills.
