Davao de Oro LGU to host Bulawan Festival and founding anniversary

Klent Vincent Magalona

THE PROVINCIAL government of Davao de Oro will relaunch its three-day 18th Bulawan Festival and the 27th Founding Anniversary of Davao de Oro from Mar 6 to 8 after its postponement last year.

Provincial Tourism Office development management officer Klent Vincent Magalona said this year’s festival will focus more on essential services and community engagement like job fairs and one-stop shops compared to past festivals that were purely entertainment.

Magalona mentioned that the previous planned activities were hindered due to the series of earthquakes that occurred in March 2023, as well as the flooding and landslides in Davao de Oro in 2024.

He also shared that tourism in Davao de Oro is doing well but several attractions like the Bilawa Mainit Hot Waterfall in Maco town are closed for further assessment.

“Despite the calamities na hitabo sa Davao de Oro, nag increase gihapon atong tourist arrivals. In 2024, ni breach ta og two million na arrivals both local and foreign sa atoang mga tourist destinations,” he said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Feb 24.

Magalona hopes to increase the number of tourist arrivals and for the Bilawa Mainit Hot Waterfall to open since Davao de Oro’s wellness loop has always been popular among visitors.

The festival’s opening will begin with a motorcade and parade in Nabunturan followed by ribbon-cutting ceremonies in various locations. This also includes a plant-selling event, bonsai exhibits for bonsai enthusiasts, and jewelry displays to showcase the province’s gold and other events.

Day two of the festival will have the services, Al’law ng Kalumonan (Day of the Lumad), and the  Binibining Davao de Oro, while the third and final day will be its founding anniversary celebration.
