The Regional Task Force COVID-19 issued Resolution No. 14, advocating for a Compassion Campaign for positive persons, their families, repatriated overseas Filipino workers, and frontliners.
The regional task force is appealing to all Davao residents to extend their support and assistance. The resolution recommended the following:
A. Check on elderly neighbors through text, phone call or email, especially if they live alone;
B. Reach out to people in self-isolation or home quarantine by sending funny memes, gifts, postcards, call or video chat with them to cheer them up and make them feel less alone and have social support;
C. Offer to pick up and deliver their shopping treats or other things they might need while taking precautions to keep yourself safe;
D. Join the “Oplan Hatid” campaign by providing transportation to COVID-19 affected persons in your locality from their residence to the hospital or to COVID-19 isolation facilities and for health service workers from their residence to hospitals where they are working;
E. Request or convince landlords against evicting COVID-19 frontliners from their living quarters;
E. Combat false information online by reporting to DOH hotline numbers and only get information from trusted sources like the World Health Organization (WHO) and DOH;
F. Provide relief goods and funds to financially impacted families;
G. Donate or conduct fundraising drive for the much-needed medical and personal protective equipment, medical supplies, and food for health service workers and other frontliners;
H. Express gratitude to the health service workers for their hard work by giving them inspiring words, postcards, among other forms of encouragement; and
I. Report to proper authorities the perpetrators of discrimination, assault and violent acts against COVID-19 positives, PUIs, PUMs, returning OFWs, health service workers, and other frontliners, including other crimes and abuses to women and children.
Whereas given the aforementioned, there is an urgent need to institute measures across Davao region the passage of anti-discrimination ordinances at the local level in order to protect and impose stiffer penalties against any act that promotes stigma, unfair treatment and discrimination against COVID-19 positive patients, probable and suspected cases, returning OFWs, health service workers, and other frontliners.
The resolution was issued on April 8 and signed by Regional Development Council chair and Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy and Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council XI.
