Mayor Sara Duterte asserted that community transmission has already taken place in the city amid the continuing spike in the number of patients who tested positive for COVID-19.
“There has been a patient who acquired the disease without a travel history from virus-contaminated areas and did not attend the cock-fight event in Matina,” she confirmed on Monday.
Duterte, however, did not disclose any more details about the said patient.
She also admitted that the increase in the number of spike in the number of persons under investigation (PUIs) can be attributed to the major cockfighting event in the city prior to the community quarantine. Health officials have been continuously tracing those who went to attend the derby in New Matina Galleria.
She urged attendees to self-monitor and get themselves tested in the designated health centers when they develop symptoms.
However, Duterte urged the public to not focus on the number of positive cases as it is expected.
“Take the precautionary measures. Stay at home, wash your hands regularly, and observe social distancing. People are also mandated to wear the proper masks when going out of the house,” she said.
