Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc., Province of Camiguin strengthen partnership for PET bottle collection and recycling

Camiguin Governor Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo and CCBPI VP for Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Atty. Juan Lorenzo Tañada sign an agreement to formalize the turnover of a baling machine for the collection and recycling of clear PET plastic bottles.

AS PART of the vibrant opening festivities of the 45th Camiguin Lanzones Festival on Oct. 17, Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI), the bottling arm of Coca-Cola in the country, signed a memorandum of agreement with the Provincial Government of Camiguin to reinforce their shared commitment to sustainability.

Marking another milestone since the start of the partnership in September 2023, the signing commemorated the turnover of a baling machine, aimed to enhance and streamline the collection and recycling of post-consumer clear PET plastic bottles across the province.

“We at CCBPI are proud of our shared commitment with the Provincial Government of Camiguin as we continue to work together toward a more sustainable future for its communities. Through our collective efforts, we can make collection and recycling more accessible to Camiguinons and ensure that every post-consumer recyclable PET plastic bottle is given new life. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to our continued collaboration in making a lasting positive impact together,” said Atty. Juan Lorenzo Tañada, CCBPI’s VP for Corporate & Regulatory Affairs.

Post-consumer clear PET plastic bottles gathered at the Camiguin Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in February 2024, collected from the municipalities of Mambajao, Mahinog, Guinsiliban, Sagay, and Catarman.

Over the past year, this collaboration has made meaningful strides in keeping the Province of Camiguin waste-free. The partnership began as an effort to tackle plastic waste by hauling stockpiles of clear PET bottles from the municipalities of Mambajao, Mahinog, Guinsiliban, Sagay, and Catarman.

Closing the loop for recyclable plastic packaging, the bottles were brought to PETValue Philippines, the country’s first bottle-to-bottle recycling facility, to be turned into new food-grade recycled PET (rPET) bottles.

CCBPI remains dedicated to refreshing the Philippines and making a difference—partnering with local communities to increase awareness of the value of proper collection and recycling and creating stronger environmental programs that support local waste management systems.
