Cenro marks green month

In line with the celebration of the Environment Month, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) conducted free emission testing for vehicles as well as a scheduled tree planting activity.

The events are among the lineup of activities of the office that will promote the protection of the resources and maintain the air quality of the city.

The emission test is the government’s way of clearing the roads of smoke belchers. The city ranked 6th in the 2018 Air Quality Report of the Switzerland-based IQ AirVisual and Greenpeace, listing it among the Asian cities with the best air quality.

“This emission test is important to maintain the cleanliness of our air. We are currently ranked 6th in Asia based on our air quality so it is best if we will maintain this,” Anti-Smoke Belching Unit chief Vicente Revamonte said.

Meanwhile, the date and the venue for the tree planting will still be finalized within the week.

Last year, trees were planted along Bolton Bridge and Cenro partnered with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for the activity.

The month of June of each year is declared as the Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1998.
