Calinan barangays cleared from drugs

Some outlying areas in the city have been declared drug-free barangays, an officer of a drug agency said.

These barangays include Sirib, Dacudao, Inayangan, Saloy, Pangyan, and Wangan all in Calinan District.

“These barangays have few populations, that is why it is easy for these areas to eliminate drugs, as these are also small barangays,” Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI (PDEA XI) Assistant Regional Director Atty. Behn Joseph Tesiorna said.

Tesiorna said urbanized barangays are more prone to illegal drug dealings as the population in these areas are high.

“It is normal that we can first declare peripheral barangays to be drug-free areas. In urbanized areas, the more people, the more money. So we can say they are more prone to illegal drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Tee, City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC XI) technical adviser for the community-based rehab and After Care Program, said that 2,600 out of the 15,000 business firms in city have already complied with the training for the Drug-Free Place policy of the city government.

“I am urging all those who did not comply yet with the drug-free place policy training to please comply it already, because you can never be given a business permit if you don’t have a certification from us,” Tee said.

He also said that some service-provider schools give training for those business establishments that do not comply yet with the said requirement.

These schools include Ateneo de Davao University, Holy Cross of Davao College, University of Immaculate Conception, and University of Mindanao.

“You can go to these schools for your application regarding our requirement for those of you who have 10 and above employees,” he said.

As of now, law enforcement and drug agencies are continuing and improving their preventive program on drugs.
