Alleged explosives at Sta. Ana Elementary School branded as “fake news”
FRIGHTENED parents swarmed Sta. Ana Elementary School following a bomb scare on Thursday morning, June 22.
According to Unsung Hero’s FB live, the area was already cleared of the threat while the children gradually filed out to avoid a stampede.
Task Force Davao soldiers and police officers were also deployed to calm the situation and assure the parents that there was no bomb as reported.
The Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) and K9 unit team also combed through the campus and buildings. They later declared that the bomb threat was “fake news.”
In an interview on Thursday, Captain Rizalito Clapiz of the Sta. Ana Police Station said they would try to identify the source of the report and how things escalated quickly.
The bomb scare came on the heels of the arrest of a 34-year-old Samal Island resident on Monday night after cracking a bomb joke at Roxas Night Market.
He was identified as Michael Jhon Algones Liporada, a resident of Sta Cruz, Kaputian, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte, who shouted “Bomb!” as Task Force Davao personnel inspected his bag.
Liporada is presently in the custody of the Sta. Ana Police Station, where he would be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1727 or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law. If convicted, Liporada may be sentenced to five years imprisonment or a P40,000 fine, or both.
