BARANGAY 76-A chairman Robert Olan-Olan raised concerns about the growing number of young people involved in metal theft along the Davao City Coastal Road, particularly from Quezon Boulevard to Times Beach.

He shared these concerns during the culminating activity of the 29th Police Community Relations at the San Pedro Police Station on July 31, 2024.

Olan-Olan revealed that he has apprehended 13 minors caught stealing metal in the area. To address the issue, he implemented interventions for these young offenders, including involving their guardians.

In one case, a 19-year-old suspect was arrested and jailed for stealing and selling metals.

The barangay official also implicated three junk shop owners allegedly buying the stolen materials. He warned these business owners that he would recommend closing their establishments if they continued to purchase stolen items.

Olan-Olan emphasized his commitment to enforcing the Anti-Fencing Law (PD No. 1612) against non-compliant junk shops.

In another incident, unknown suspects demolished a portion of the coastal road near Mabini Purok Dos to steal stainless steel. The theft occurred on a rainy day to avoid detection. Olan-Olan has offered a P5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
