A 42-YEAR-OLD male passenger bound for Singapore was arrested on May 3, 2024, at Davao International Airport for cracking a bomb joke.
According to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup), the incident occurred at the check-in counter when the passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, was questioned by customer service agents about his baggage contents.
The passenger responded with the phrase “Wala ni mabuak diri Ma’am, bomba lang (There are no fragile items inside Ma’am, only a bomb).”
Responding to a call from Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions, Inc. (PAGSS), Davao International Airport Police Station (DIAPS) personnel immediately apprehended the suspect. He was informed of the offense and his constitutional rights in a language he understood.
The arrested individual is currently under temporary detention at Sasa Police Station. DIAPS authorities have filed a case against him for violating Presidential Decree 1727 (Malicious Diversion of Attention from Lawful Activities) at the Davao Prosecutor’s Office.
“The PNP Avsegroup will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt airport operations,” said PBGen Christopher N Abrahano, Director of the PNP Avsegroup. “We are committed to enforcing the law firmly to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and personnel.”
