DOLE XI ensures overseas employers’ legitimacy

THE DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI said Thursday the office ensures employers for overseas jobs are licensed and legally operating.

Jenelyn A. Sanchez, DOLE XI senior labor and employment officer, said overseas employers during job fairs are crosschecked to ensure legitimacy.

“Our mechanism to ensure that participating employers are really legit is to require them to register in PhilJobNet and submit documentary requirements,” Sanchez said.

PhilJobNet is a portal of DOLE with a centralized database to ensure employers/companies have the legal personality to post job vacancies, hire applicants, and protect job seekers against fraud, deceit, and illegal recruitment.

In the case of the accreditation of overseas companies in the PhilJobNet, they are required to submit a Bureau of Internal Revenue Certificate of Registration (Form 2303), and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration License for Overseas Recruitment and Placement Agency.

She added they also conduct employers’ forums to assess the authenticity of documents if they are still operating and existing, prior to the scheduled job fair.

The question was raised following a series of reports of hiring seasonal workers programs abroad raised by a city councilor.

Councilor Bai Hundra Cassandra “Sweet” Advincula, told reporters during Aprubado sa Konseho, on May 28 that most jobs fall under the agricultural sector such as fruit picking offering P80,000 per month which convinces people to apply.

“There have been cases already particularly sa Luzon area mga seasonal workers mga Pinoy na na-deploy doon but they have become victims of illegal recruitment,” Advincula said.

She added there had been private entities who expressed intent to the committee to promote these jobs, however, there were anomalies found when they consulted DMW.

The councilor called to intensify the accreditation of overseas employers to prevent Filipino workers from turning into Tago ng Tago (TNT).

The 2024 Kalayaan Job Fair at Gaisano Mall of Davao on June 12 has 4,370 vacancies with 2,592 for local and 1,778 for overseas.

Top job vacancies for overseas include staff nurses (194), manufacturing operators (180); and production operators (75).

Meanwhile, top destinations include the Czech Republic (330), Saudi Arabia (201), and the United Kingdom with 192 vacancies.
