African national arrested for allegedly stealing smart watch inside a mall

AN AFRICAN national was handcuffed for allegedly stealing an expensive smartwatch at a mall in an entrapment operation near McDonald’s at Km. 5, Buhangin, around 7:35 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspect only as alias Thurman, 50, single, and unemployed, currently residing at Crossing Bayabas, Barangay Lubogan, Toril, Davao City.

Prior to the entrapment operation, the suspect was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) stealing a smartwatch from Ytelcomm store at SM Lanang.

Police launched a sting operation after the complainant discovered that the suspect was trying to sell the stolen item online.

Authorities arrested the suspect and confiscated the unopened box containing a Samsung smartwatch valued at P40,000.

The gadget was inventoried on-site in the presence of a store representative.

Meanwhile, the suspect is under the custody of the Bajada Police Station for the filing of a theft case.
