Abalos gains momentum in latest OCTA research survey for 2025 senatorial race

Manila, Philippines — Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos is gaining significant traction in the 2025 senatorial race, based on the latest survey released by OCTA Research on January 25, 2025. The survey results placed Abalos within the 9th to 16th rank among senatorial aspirants, with a voter preference of 39%.

The nationwide survey, conducted from January 25 to 31, 2025, polled 1,200 registered voters. The margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level, making the rankings highly relevant as the May 2025 elections draw closer.

Abalos’s strong showing in the survey reflects the growing public recognition of his track record in public service. Known for his leadership as the former chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and later as Interior Secretary, Abalos has been at the forefront of disaster response, local government support, and public safety initiatives.

His recent campaign focus on good governance and reforms appears to be resonating with a broad sector of voters.

Political analysts attribute Abalos’s rise to his visibility during the pandemic response and his initiatives to strengthen local government units.

His reputation for hands-on leadership has also contributed to his favorable performance in the survey.

The survey also revealed a strong showing from administration-backed candidates, with nine allies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. positioned among the top ranks.

This reflects continued public support for the administration’s priorities and its slate of senatorial candidates.

As the campaign period progresses, all eyes will be on Abalos to see if he can convert his survey momentum into a decisive win in the upcoming elections.

With months to go before Election Day, Abalos and his fellow candidates are expected to intensify their grassroots efforts and public engagements to solidify their standings.

Abalos’s camp expressed gratitude for the growing support and vowed to continue advocating for public service reforms and better governance.

“We are thankful for the trust given to us. This is a humbling affirmation of our work, and we will continue to serve with integrity and dedication,” Abalos said in a recent statement.

The May 2025 elections are expected to be highly competitive, with seasoned politicians and rising figures vying for 12 Senate seats. PR
