THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI distributed a total of P723,382,182 worth of assistance consisting of family food packs (FFPs), non-food items (NFIs), and cash to calamity victims.
The victims were identified by their respective local government units following several flooding incidents and landslides, including the deadly tragedy in Masara, Maco last month.
During the Kapihan forum on March 4, Atty. Vanesa Goc-ong, DSWD XI regional director, said,
“We are already nearing a 70% accomplishment for Davao del Norte, and as of today, we started in Davao Oriental,” Goc-ong said.
According to their report, about P318,431,683 worth of FFPs were provided for 474,139 families from the shear line weather system(145,139 families), the trough of LPA (329,085 families), and Masara landslide (299 families).
For NFIs, about P7,073,859 total assistance was provided to 486 family kits (clothes for children and adults), 733 modular tents, 663 sleeping kits, and 730 hygiene kits. About 600 Jerry cans were provided to shear line victims, 10 family tents for Masara landslide victims, and 100 kitchen kits for families affected by a trough of LPA.
Goc-ong stressed that they are now transitioning from food assistance to cash transfer. As of last week, a total of P397,493,640 emergency cash transfers (ECTs) were given to Davao del Norte.
“The purpose of emergency cash transfer is for the families to be able to buy whatever they deem fit for house materials, house repairs, gamit sa bahay na nasira, food that will be at the discretion of the family,” she said.
She also noted that families affected by the Masara landslide might be transferred to a tent city near Barangay Elizalde, and they will continuously provide tents and food packs per family. She also ensured that the camp would be managed and monitored well, and should maintain a child-friendly space.
