Endure Christmas gridlock a little longer – Mayor Duterte

Mayor Sebastian Duterte urged Davaoeños to be more patient in the face of the worsening traffic congestion during the Yuletide season.

This, after the Dan-ag Dabaw and Panag-abli formally opened to kickstart events that people can enjoy with lesser restrictions.

The mayor, in his speech during the Panag-abli sa Davao on Dec. 1, said that he just signed an executive order adopting the optional wearing of masks in indoor and outdoor settings within the city.

Even with a warning that the wearing of face masks should remain, the attendees could not hide their excitement about the announcement.

Dance performances, musical renditions, fairy ballet, and a breathtaking aerial performance added a holiday cheer to Davaoeños and guests during the opening around 6 p.m.  at the Rizal Park.

Vice Mayor Melchor B. Quitain thanked Davaoeños for following the minimum health standards such as face masks and  vaccination.

He said this year’s Christmas celebration  wouldn’t have been grander without the cooperation of everyone.

Duterte reminded the public to follow the other rules, especially the long-standing observance of the firecracker ban.

After his speech, the mayor led the Christmas Lighting at San Pedro Square areas near City Hall Drive, the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and the Christmas Tree at Quezon Park.

After the ceremony, the 3D Wall Mapping illuminated the City Hall building.

The light show will be showcased every night for the whole month of December.
