531 fire cases recorded in Davao City for 2022

THE BUREAU of Fire Protection recorded 531 fire incidents in 2022, causing total damage amounting to P63 million.

SFO4 Ramil Gillado, the Davao City Fire District spokesperson, said the causes included electrical short-circuit, open fire due to cooking, playing with matches, and unattended overheated electrical appliances.

The bureau also recorded three deaths and nine injuries from the incidents.

He said the two top areas of fire incidents include residential areas and rubbish and grass fires.

“Comparing the month of January 2022 and 2023, there was a reduction of fire incidents from 45 fire incidents to 38 fire incidents in 2023 or tantamount to a 15 percent reduction, attributed to our information and education advocacy against fire incidents in the barangays,” Gillado said.

He noted no fire incidents involving establishments because of the yearly inspection during the renewal of business permits.

Gillado said they focus more on educating residents and barangay officials on the things to do when roads are blocked by their parked vehicles or roads too small to maneuver for the fire trucks.

“We map the areas that are prone to fire incidents in the barangays, and we conduct fire prevention activities with them,” he said.

Gillado observed that the people are aware of what to do in case a fire incident occurs in their area.  (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
