FOUR were killed and two others injured in a tragic collision between two commuter vans along the national highway around 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2025, near the Barangay Binugao Gym in Toril District.
A Toyota Hiace van driven by Omar Manajero, 29, of Grotto Dos, Maguindanao, collided with another Toyota Hiace van driven by Salik Kadaffy Landasan, 46, of Poblacion, Kabacan, Cotabato.
According to the police investigation, Landasan’s van lost control while heading toward Davao City from Digos City, careening onto the opposite lane and crashing into Manajero’s van, carrying passengers from Awang, Cotabato.
The impact killed four of Manajero’s passengers: Remie Centena, Edna Centena, Mary Joy Abuda Lastimoso, and Sherlyn Altimo. Two other passengers, Jennifer Sandolan and Jessa Lastimoso, sustained injuries.
Both drivers were unharmed and are currently in the custody of the Traffic Enforcement Unit as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident and whether any charges will be filed.
