A DRIVER and two helpers were killed after crashing into another truck while traversing Daang Maharlika Highway at Licanan, Barangay Lasang, around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17.
Police identified the driver as Ernesto Bernardez, 41, a resident of Purok 7 Bangkas Heights Toril. The other two onboard were Randy Calibay, 38, a resident of Malita, Davao Occidental, and Mark Anthony Bernardez, 26, a resident of Fatima, General Santos City.
The prime mover truck driver was identified as Irenio Gealon, 50, married, and a resident of New Visayas, Panabo City.
Investigation showed that both vehicles were coming from the south, with the Isuzu truck driver occupying the second lane and the prime mover on the innermost lane. Reportedly, Gealon turned right to their parking area.
The police said that while his signal was turned on, Bernardez could not stop in time to avoid crashing into the rear portion of the truck.
The Central 911 paramedics declared the three dead on the spot while Gealon was brought to the police station to face the charge.
