The 29th National Autism Consciousness Week, observed from January 19 to 25, 2025, commenced with great enthusiasm at the 6th Republic Café and Restaurant. The opening event welcomed individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their parents to a hearty lunch, alongside dedicated advocates for autism awareness and inclusion.
In collaboration with the Independent Living Learning Centre (ILLC) Davao, the week-long celebration shines a spotlight on ILLC’s Job Readiness Program (JRP).
This initiative provides students with special needs invaluable hands-on training at the café, equipping them with essential work experience while fostering their self-confidence. Through this program, students acquire practical skills that prepare them for independent living and future employment opportunities.
From January 20 to 25, 2025, diners at the 6th Republic Café will have the unique opportunity to witness ILLC student-workers in action from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. To encourage meaningful participation in Autism Consciousness Week, a portion of the café’s sales during this period will be allocated as incentives for the students involved in the training. This thoughtful initiative aims to support their journey toward greater independence and self-sufficiency.
National Autism Consciousness Week serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering broader understanding and acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum. It is a call to action for creating opportunities that empower people with special needs and recognizing their unique talents and abilities.
By working together, the community can build a more inclusive and supportive environment where everyone has the chance to thrive.
