2 nabbed for failing drug test

LAW ENFORCERS collared a bus driver and a conductor for failing a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) XI-initiated drug test on Tuesday.

The driver was handcuffed at the business terminal in Tagum City, while the conductor was arrested in Digos City, Davao Sur.

The two were among the 500 drivers and conductors who underwent the drug test, part of the Oplan Harabas campaign, simultaneously conducted in the two nearby cities as well as at the Davao Overland Transport Terminal.

Nephi Noli Dimaandal, PDEA XI said the two, who were not identified, will face criminal complaints for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Dimaandal emphasized that the operation was aimed to ensure the safety and security of the passengers from reckless drivers who might ferry them to their respective destinations while under the influence of drugs.

He added that “Oplan Harabas” was joined by the local government units of Davao City, Digos City, and Tagum City; Police Regional Office XI; Highway Patrol Group XI; Land Transportation Office LTO XI; LTFRB XI, Department of Health (DOH) XI; City Transport and Traffic Management Office; and Davao City Public Safety and Security Command Center.

PDEA is also calling on the public to help the government achieve its vision of a drug-free country by reporting those who are involved in illegal drug activities. The agency can be reached through its hotlines at 082-228-1603 and 09331481387.
