196 caught violating quarantine liquor ban

One-hundred ninety-six individuals were arrested for selling and drinking alcoholic beverages between March and June.

Col. Kirby John Kraft, Davao City Police Office chief, said that concerned citizens were instrumental in apprehending the violators.

“We received tips from various Davaoeños that led to the arrest of these individuals. We actually encourage more Davaoeños to inform us if they see people violating the liquor ban,” Kraft said.

Dr. Ashley Lopez, Vices Regulation Unit head, said that they have been monitoring online sellers of alcoholic beverages. He said the retailers have shifted to the digital platform when all the physical stores have been shut down.

The city government enforced a liquor ban beginning April 6.

“There are still very stubborn people, especially alcoholics, who desperately find ways to drink to satisfy their cravings,” Lopez said.

Lopez and Kraft issued a warning anew that the city government is strictly implementing the alcohol ban amid the pandemic.
