Zero incidents 17 years in a row

The city recorded zero firecracker-related incidents during the recent Christmas celebration, the 17th year in a row since the implementation of firecracker and pyrotechnic ban in 2002.

In a message yesterday, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Capt. Rosario Aguilar described the celebration as “generally peaceful.”

“We haven’t recorded any arrest, sale or use of firecrackers,” Aguilar said.

City Ordinance No. 060-02, passed by the 13th City Council, prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices and other similar devices and explosives within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.

Aguilar said they are strictly monitoring the possible entry of firecrackers in the city going to other provinces, especially for the New Year celebrations.

Transported banned materials that are just passing through the city on the way to other destinations are subject for confiscation, Rosario said.
