Weeklong activities lined up for National Crime Prevention Week

THE NATIONAL Police Commission (Napolcom) XI laid out a series of activities for the 29th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) celebration from Sept. 1-8.

Bearing the theme “ Addressing Crime and Advancing Crime Prevention at the Local, National and Global Levels,” NCPW will emphasize the importance of “crime prevention and suppression which is a priority concern not only by the different government instrumentalities but also by the general public.”

Francis Brion, Napolcom XI spokesperson, said the activity “focuses on the different best practices of our different police stations in Davao City and municipalities to address crime in the locality.”

The kick-off ceremony will be held simultaneously with BIDA Caravan on Sept. 1 at People’s Park to be followed by a 3-day basketball clinic on Sept. 2-4.

The official said that the basketball clinic intended for indigents aims to “prioritize sports than membership in gangs.”

“We encourage them to join basketball and to develop their skills,” Brion added.

Meanwhile, a symposium on “Protecting Oneself from any Gender-Related Harassment” and on “Personal Protection and Self-Defense Activity” will be held on Sept. 5, followed by another symposium on “Anti-Illegal Drugs and Basic Life Support” on Sept. 6. The series of symposiums will be held in Rizal Memorial Colleges.

The activity will culminate on Sept. 8 at the Davao City Police Office with a flag retreat.

The celebration is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 461 s. 1994, declaring the first week of September as NCPW.
