MULTI-AWARDED Davao-born artist and art advocate Ega Carreon led the pioneering art exhibit of Pinta lX Art Gallery last Saturday, October 8, in Barangay Tambo, Babak, Island Garden City of Samal.
Carreon, an international artist who has showcased his artworks in Berlin, Germany; Barcelona, Spain; Washington, New Jersey, New York City and Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, USA, is joined by fellow artists Mati-born Juliet Samante, award-winning fine arts painter and tattoo artist Ryan Kingjim Uy, and rock band lyricist and vocalist Jasmine Cabilla.
“The gallery is called Pinta lX (Nueve), which is about embodying wisdom and being a humanitarian through the arts. The number 9 is a symbolism on wisdom in life, being in a mature stage where one has reached balance. In art, it means a journey to the completion of art making,” he said.
According to Carreon, there are three processes in art-making: conceptualization, execution, and the completion of the whole idea.
Carreon, Samante, Uy and Cabilla are also the pioneering resident artists of Pinta lX, owned by Engineer Elias Bermejo, whose family is also an art and tourism advocate.
Around 70 art pieces by the said artists are on display at Pinta lX.
“We haven’t accepted new members yet but we will surely do so in time as we also want to help mentor young and emerging local artists,” added Carreon.
The exhibit, which focuses on contemporary art, is open to the public until October 21. Gallery hours are from 1 PM to 5 PM.
