OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) XI arrested a village chief and a farmer for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition after serving a search warrant in Barangay Bonifacio, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, on Thursday, Jan. 19.
Lt. Col. Jovit Culaway, acting regional chief of CIDG XI, identified the barangay official as Edwin Pactor Loon Sr, a resident of Purok 3, Mansanitas, Barangay Bonifacio, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
According to the CIDG report, Loon was arrested for violation of R.A. 10591 issued by Hon. Judge Carfelita B. Cadiente-Flores, executive judge, Branch 61, Digos City, Davao del Sur dated Jan. 12, 2023.
The search warrant was served by the joint personnel of the CIDG Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit and CIDG XI, along with other PNP operating units. They seized a 9mm Beretta pistol; three magazines; 27 bullets; and one black sling bag.
Meanwhile, Arias Zambo Alfredo, 67, was arrested by the CIDG operatives during the implementation of the search warrant for violation of RA 10591 issued by Presiding Judge Carfelita B. Cadiente-Flores, of RTC, Branch 61, Digos City, Davao del Sur, dated Jan. 17, 2023.
Seized from his possession were an M1 Garand rifle, an M16 A1 rifle, three M16 long magazine assemblies; eight short magazine assemblies for an M16 rifle; bandoliers, and various ammunitions.
Arrested persons and seized items were brought to the CIDG DSPFU office for documentation and were subsequently turned over to the Kiblawan Municipal Police Station for detention.
Meanwhile, a case for violation of RA 10591 (the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) is being prepared for filing at the Office of the City Prosecutor, Digos City.
“The CIDG RFU 11 will continue to strengthen the implementation of firearms law and to suppress the proliferation of loose firearms, which criminals and lawbreakers frequently use,” Culaway said.
