UM DAVAO scored eight gold medals in the team medal tally, triumphing in the 19 Above Women category of the Araw ng Dabaw Athletics Festival Season 3 at the Matina Oval Track and Field from March 29 to 30.
The team achieved gold medals in the running events of 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m mixed relay. This also includes throwing events of shot put and discus throw.
UM Davao also earned four silver medals and four bronze medals in the same category.
More than 700 young athletes and 41 teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao participated in the event to compete in activities of running, throwing, and jumping.
Kase Duffy Gel McDowell of team UM Davao earned two gold medals in the 1500m with a record of 5:09.58 mins, and 3000m with 12:01.30 mins.
Andrea de Guia and her teammates also earned two gold medals in the 800m with 2:28.61 and 4x100m relay with 45.25 secs.
Araw ng Dabaw Athletics Festival Season 3 was spearheaded by the Davao City Track and Field Association.
The festival aims to develop the youth and become professionally trained athletes, as well as grassroots development for children at the age of 12 and below who will represent Davao City in future competitions.
