TWO INDIVIDUALS were arrested after allegedly yielding more than P40,000 worth of shabu and marijuana while passing through the checkpoints at Barangay Lasang and Mahayag, Bunawan District, on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Captain John Louie Dema-ala, the Task Force Davao spokesperson, identified the suspects as Eljam Gambuta, 27, single, a resident of San Isidro Labrador, Buhangin, and John Paul Unabia, 27, single, a resident of 162, Purok 6, San Jose, Compostela, Davao De Oro.
According to Dema-ala, Gambuta was on board a passenger bus traveling toward the city around 8:45 a.m. when he was arrested at the Lasang checkpoint following an inspection.
On the other hand, at around 10 a.m., Unabia was driving a Mio motorcycle when he was stopped at the fixed checkpoint in Barangay Mahayag.
Law enforcers allegedly confiscated a total of 2.50 grams of shabu with an estimated P40,000 street value and 26.90 grams of marijuana with a street value of P3,330 from the suspects.
Colonel Darren Comia, Task Force Davao commander, commended the relentless effort of TFD and Davao City Police Office personnel for strictly screening all motorists and passengers passing through the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, the two suspects and confiscated evidence are now in the custody of the Bunawan Police Station as they face appropriate charges for violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
