Two dead in Marilog road crash

TWO INDIVIDUALS were killed in a tragic road accident involving a Ford Ranger pick-up and a Fuso Canter drop-side truck at Purok 10, Barangay Buda, Marilog District, around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

According to Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office, the Ford Ranger with plate number NHD 7061 was driven by alias Kerwin while the Fuso Canter with plate number GTS 682 was driven by Rey Bando Awe, a 40-year-old resident of Purok 18, Duplex, Talomo District.

Initial investigation revealed that the Ford Ranger was heading toward Davao City from Bukidnon, while the Fuso Canter was traveling toward Bukidnon.

Upon reaching a curved and accident-prone section of the road in Purok 10, Barangay Buda, Awe claimed that he lost his brakes and veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming pick-up truck.

In the Ford Ranger, Kristopher Dasalla Alag, a resident of  Micah Street, Bago Aplaya, was declared dead on arrival at the German Doctors Hospital. Another passenger, Lerry Dela Cruz, was also injured and transferred to Davao Doctors Hospital for further treatment.

The passengers of the Fuso Canter – Jessy Abando, Ruel Awe, Elmer Siputan, and Ruel Aktiva – were all brought to Isaac Robillo Hospital.

Tragically, Ruel Aktiva succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead by the attending physician. Authorities transported his remains to Angel Funeral Parlor in Calinan.

The driver of the Fuso Canter, Rey Bando Awe, is currently detained at the Marilog Police Station as authorities conduct further investigation and determine appropriate charges.
