Twin earthquakes will not derail Araw ng Dabaw fest

DAVAO CITY- The City Government of Davao is pushing through the events despite the two strong earthquakes that struck the region on March 7.

Wala tay i-adjust (we will not adjust) because all the events for the Araw ng Dabaw planado siya (are planned), so we will execute as planned, and we’ll make sure na fully coordinated and fully orchestrated ang tanang remaining events (all the remaining events),” City Tourism Operations Office OIC Jennifer Romero said during her guesting at I-Speak Media Forum held on March 9 at the City Hall.

An earthquake at magnitude 5.9 with an epicenter located 8 kilometers south of New Bataan struck at 2:00 p.m. another strong earthquake occurred on the same day at 4:47 pm with a magnitude of 5.6. The two tremors were felt in Davao City.

The earthquakes forced Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga to postpone some of the events of Davao de Oro’s Bulawan Festival that are being held on  March 7 and 8.

For Davao City, Romero said they have closely coordinated with organizers to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration of the 86th founding anniversary of the City.

“We’ll make sure that all the events are really executed properly,”  Romero said.

The major activities include the Araw ng Dabaw Lipsync Competition on March 10,  Cheerdance Competition on March 11, Sayaw Pinoy on March 12, Reyna Dabawenya on March 15,  Mutya ng Dabaw coronation on March 17,  Parada Dabawenyo on March 18 and Bands Clash also on March 18.  (PIA/RG Alama)
