Tragedy strikes Ata-Manobo tribe as brake failure causes fatal accident in Davao del Norte

FIVE MEMBERS of the Ata-Manuvu tribe, including three children, were killed Sunday morning when the truck they rode fell into a creek in Barangay Sto Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte. 

According to the Police Regional Office XI, the overloaded Isuzu truck, carrying approximately 25 passengers, was en route to Pindasan, Mabini in Davao de Oro around 9:30 a.m. when it encountered brake failure. 

As the vehicle descended a curved section of road in Purok 11, Lower Misolong, the driver lost control when the brakes malfunctioned. The truck then veered off the road and plunged into a nearby creek.

Five passengers, consisting of two adults and three minors, died at the scene. The remaining passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine if any additional factors contributed to the accident.
