Traders asked: Hire jeep drivers as private chauffeurs

Mayor Sara Duterte has appealed to employers to hire displaced public utility jeepney drivers to take care of their service vehicles during the enhanced community quarantine.

“This will help them (drivers) to still have their job amid the ECQ,” she said, adding that the ECQ will suspend all mass transportation in the city.

Companies that are still operating during the enhanced quarantine can hire jeepneys as exclusive transportation for their employees.

“Utilize the jeepneys and hire the drivers because they will probably lose their income during ECQ as they are not allowed to operate. I suggest we help them as we can,” she said.

Under the guideline, workers can access a bus ride through the Libreng Sakay. A tricycle must only have one driver, one passenger in the front, and one at the back. Taxis and private vehicles should only have one driver, one passenger in the front, and one at the back. For motorcycles, Duterte has ordered a no-backride policy, same goes with the bicycle.

Earlier, Duterte has also appealed to the employers to provide their workers with food assistance.

“This will help the city government in our drive to help people. In this way, the rationed goods will be reserved for those who really need it, since you will provide the food assistance for your workers,” she said.

She has strongly urged these private sectors to supply their workers with food provision that would last a month.

“It’s okay to have no money, the important thing is no one will starve until April 30,” she said.
