Torre: no personnel changes, vows to address morale after Davao City police shakeup

NEWLY appointed Police Regional Office (PRO) XI director, Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, stated that immediate personnel changes are not his initial approach following the relief of 35 PNP personnel, including Davao City Police Director Col. Richard Bad-ang, last May due to a controversial drug operation.

When asked about potentially replacing the DCPO director, Torre emphasized that it’s not his first instinct to make immediate personnel changes.

“That’s not my style – to come in and immediately replace everyone,” he said. “I’m not their savior, and I’m not the one to judge them. I’ll work with them, and if they say there’s a reason to replace someone, then that’s a different story. But changing the personnel I inherited is not my initial intention,” Torre said in an interview on Sunday after he assumed office at Camp Quintin Merecido in Buhangin.

Torre said he would also look into the situation and explore solutions following the relief of 35 PNP personnel, including Bad-ang.

“It’s a normal part of a commander’s job to assess the morale of the troops,” Brig. Gen. Torre said.

“I’ll look and see what I can do to ensure that the morale of the people here remains high, so they continue to be happy working for the Philippine National Police,” he further said.
