VICE PRESIDENT Sara Duterte slammed the P20 per kilo rice distribution in Visayas for being “a little too late” since it was a campaign promise three years ago.

Also, she raised the dubious timing of the distribution since the 2025 mid-term elections are just about two weeks away.

“It’s a campaign promise, ‘yong P20 na rice, at ngayon lang in-implement sa panahon ng eleksiyon,” she said during an interview.

Duterte questioned the regional limitation of the rice program when needed across the entire country, not just in Visayas.

Her statements followed the official launch of P20/kg rice program in Visayas, led by

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. on April 23.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Also talked to the governors of the region on the same day. He described the launch as a “fulfilled promise.”

Meanwhile, Malacañang dismissed the vice president’s statement. “Don’t let crab mentality prevail,” said Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro during a press briefing on Thursday, April 24.
