TIMESMAN | Let’s all get vaccinated!

SA maniwala kayo’t sa hindi I finally got my first dose of Pfizer anti-Covid-19 vaccine at Microtel Damosa at 9 a.m. last Tuesday contrary to my pronouncement in my previous columns that I will not take the shot believing that “die today, die to tomorrow, the same.” At this stage when my life is between total darkness and sunrise, one should not be afraid to die, but instead face it with a smile. Maybe I was wrong when I said that.

But why the sudden change of heart from my previous stand despite my children’s opposition upon knowing my decision then not to be vaccinated?

The threat of President Duterte that he will send to jail people who will ignore getting the shot is nothing and did not influence my decision to get vaccinated. Hindi ako natakot sa threat ng Pangulo dahil posibleng nasabi lang niya ito as he may have been exasperated by many people who continue to ignore the vaccine despite the government efforts to control the spread of the deadly virus.

Nagpa bakuna ako sa dahilan nahiya  ako sa aking sarili because while I am insisting then not to be inoculated, here comes my four children here and abroad two of them have already  completed their vaccines while the other two are yet to receive the second shots within the month. Mine is on July 20.

All the vaccines my children received were Pfizer too. We are not choosy on the brand provided it slows getting infected by the disease similar to brands of other countries. Nagkataon lang Pfizer talaga ang gusto ko.  My kasambahay is also waiting for her schedule anytime next month.

I asked myself then, how can I convince my readers not to take the shots when even my own children ignored me? At hindi ko rin gustong dumating ang araw na ako pa ang maging dahilan na magpatuloy ang pandemya because of my wrong notion in my mind then. Kaya nagpabakuna na lang ako.

With the reported surge in Covid-19 cases in the city President Duterte has placed the entire Region XI under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) classification effective Monday until middle of this month, this upon the appeal of Mayor Inday Sara who earlier placed the city under MECQ initially from June 5 until June 20 but extended until end of this month after noting that the city has experienced surge in the daily number of Covid-19 cases.

According to Pfizer materials distributed to us and written in Tagalog, “Sa isang kasalukuyan clinical trial, naipakita na kaya ng Pfizer-BioN Tech COVID-19 Vaccine maiwasan (prevent) ang COVID-19 pagkatapos ng 2 doses na may agwat na 3 linggo. Ang tagal ng proteksiyon laban sa COVID-19 paggamit ng bakuna ay sa kasalukuyan hindi pa alam.”

In other words, even if one has completed the inoculation process, the recipient patient can still be infected with the virus, although he can no longer infect others and minimize serious risk to his health, according to medical experts.

Naging maarte ako noon na huwag magpabakuna dahil sa katwiran na may edad na ako. But upon knowing that the 77-year-old President had his first shot of Sinovac (I do not know if he already received the second shot-LDT) and the Mayor’s 73-year-old mother Elizabeth had also received the vacc after the President. Again I have no idea if she already completed it, naging mabilis ang aking decision na magpabakuna.

By allotting your 2 to 3 hours to undergo the vaccines, not only you prolong your life but as well minimize infecting others if already vaccinated.

Alam niyo ba ang isa pa sa naging kabutihan ng pagbabakuna? Magiging relaks na ang inyong pag-iisip dahil kahit paano may panlaban na kay COVID.

Kaya ano pa hinihintay niyo? Go out and be vaccinated!

I’m not surprised anymore if I correctly read the statement of President Duterte when he dared Senator Manny Pacquiao to name corrupt agencies and officials under his administration or else he will campaign against the boxing idol in the 2022 presidential election. Pacquiao is reported to be eyeing the top post after the incumbent leader ends his term on June 30, 2022.

The President and the Senator come from Mindanao and both are known friends and political allies, but now in loggerheads because of politics. The Presidential daughter is also reportedly running for the presidency.

Hindi na rin ako magtataka kung both are best of friends before but are not friends anymore now.

The old saying that “There are no permanent friends, but only permanent interest,” is again proven correct. Magpabakuna na lang kayo, mga kababayan!
