Timesman | Bantay-salakay!

Pusong bato si Presidente Duterte sa mga kriminal, ngunit pusong mamon sa kanyang mga kaibigan.

He has showed this style of governance to the people ever since he was still mayor of the city.

His being `pusong mamon’ with a friend is once again proven by him when he said he still trusts former Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) chief Nicanor Faeldon who he fired last week. The President said he sacked Faeldon for disobeying his orders to stop the release of thousands of convicts, including those who had committed heinous crimes, under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law.

While I can’t tell how the President chooses his friends, yet I still have to advise him to select the better ones or those who will not abuse his being too `mabait’.

This was not the first time that Faeldon was involved in controversy. He was then Bureau of Customs commissioner when P6.4 billion worth of “shabu” was smuggled into the country through the Manila International Container Port.

We have yet to know the result of the investigation on the “shabu” controversy. What I know is that many people have lost their lives because of illegal drugs.

The President said he still believed Faeldon whom he described “tarong na tao (upright man).” Ay, ambot!

Only the other day, President Duterte admitted that he ordered the transfer of 10 high profile inmates who testified against Senator De Lima from New Bilibid Prison to the Philippine Marines headquarters for their safety. He said the Senator who has been detained at Camp Crame for over two years now, still had allies at NBP.

DU30 is still not comfortable with DE5 despite her being locked!

A volunteer member of the police auxiliary was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation after he handed a transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu to a police operative in exchange for P2,000 in Barangay 9-A last week.

We commend our police for a job well done. Continue to be of service to the community you swear to serve and your sacrifice will not die in vain.

The suspect, Eduardo Biojon, was also arrested in March 15, 2015 in an earlier buy-bust operation by the Talomo Police Station. And after he availed of a plea bargaining last Feb. 12, 2019 and got freed he was hired as police asset complete with barangay endorsement and NBI clearance.

Despite this accomplishment of the institution, we notice loophole. There seemed to be laxity on the part of the police in screening applicants joining their ranks in the very delicate campaign illegal drugs.

Although we have heard that our police are now reviewing the procedures on how applicants with criminal records are able to pass through the screening process, yet we still want to share a piece of advice that maybe of help to our police while recruiting future auxiliary candidates to help them in the drug surveillance.

Do not give your full trust and confidence to an applicant with criminal records as you should remember they have a very questionable background. For all we know, he availed of a plea bargaining and fooled the authority so he can be freed and get back to the illegal trade.

The barangay clearance and NBI clearance are proofs that the suspect really fooled everyone.
The suspect must have connection with officials of the barangay as he was able to secure clearance of good standing even when he was a convicted felon!

And how come he was able to get an NBI clearance where even a law-abiding applicant seeking a work clearance from the agency has to pass a needle before getting one, or may even denied the application for a simple clerical error in his middle initial? Baka peke ang clearance!

This is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) that all private and government agencies are practicing but the police seemed to forget.

Let the same not repeat next time, Mr. Pulis! Iwasan, bantay-salakay!
