The Regional Internal Affairs Service XI has launched an investigation into the police officers who responded to the stabbing of two women in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, after two suspects were killed in a shootout.
Police Regional Office XI spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey confirmed that RIAS XI is mandated to investigate any incident involving fatalities during police operations.
The incident unfolded early Thursday morning, August 9, when a security guard, identified as Nelson, fatally stabbed two women, Mae and Joan, at the CZARS Boarding House in Barangay Magugpo East.
Responding police officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but he reportedly charged at them with a knife, leading to his fatal shooting.
During the operation, another individual, “Arjay,” who was allegedly armed with a bolo, also confronted the police and was shot in the leg. He later died at the hospital.
The Davao Norte Provincial Forensic Unit is processing evidence recovered from the crime scene, including spent shells, bullets, and the knife used in the stabbing incidents.
The investigation into the incident, including the police officers’ use of force, is ongoing.
