Sweeping arrests

  • Police handcuff 137, seize nearly P2-M in drugs in week-long ops

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) conducted successful anti-illegal drug operations in a week, seizing nearly P2 million worth of illegal drugs and arresting 48 suspects.

From May 19 to 25, the DCPO confiscated over 285 grams of shabu and 264 grams of marijuana with a combined value of P1,969,827.60

Spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon said DCPO personnel, under the command of acting director Col Rolindo Suguilon, should be commended for the successful operations last week, leading to the arrest of several suspects and taking illegal drugs off the streets.

She said the police are committed to serving with dedication to ensure the safety and security of the city.

Additionally, efforts against illegal gambling yielded significant results, with 54 gamblers arrested in 17 operations, P 6,061 in bet money confiscated, and 17 cases filed.

Meanwhile, the DCPO also arrested 29 fugitives, including five on the Most Wanted Person’s list, in 29 operations.

Moreover, nine operations targeting loose firearms led to the arrest of six individuals, the confiscation of six firearms, the voluntary surrender of one firearm, and the turn-in of three firearms for safekeeping under Oplan Katok.

The police filed six cases in connection with these operations.

In total, the DCPO apprehended 137 individuals.

“Rest assured that the DCPO will continue to conduct operations to bring individuals involved in illegal activities to justice,” Suguilon said.

“The active cooperation and support of the barangay officials, the community, and the local government unit are crucial factors in the successful operations and accomplishments of the DCPO team,” he added.
