Suspected bomber slain, another nabbed in clash

A MILITARY operation resulted in the death of a suspected bomber and the arrest of his companion, both identified as members of the Dawlah Islamiyah, in Purok 7, Brgy Dunguan, M’lang, North Cotabato Wednesday morning.

Lt. Col. Rommel Mundala, commanding officer of 90th Infantry (Bigkis-Lahi) Battalion identified the dead as Monir Lintukan while arrested was Randy Saro.

Mundala said several units were conducting a military operation when they chanced upon the group that resulted in the clash.

He said the group was suspected as the one that perpetrated the bombing in Parang, Maguindanao, Mlang and Aleosan both are in North Cotabato and the recent blasts in Koronadal City, South Cotabato and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.

 “Due to our intensified intelligence gathering, we immediately tracked down those suspects and launched manhunt operations against them,” he said.

Recovered from the encounter site were a Cal 5.56mm M16 rifle, a long magazine of M16 with 41 rounds cartridge of Cal 5.56mm ball; one bandolier and one improvised explosive device.

Brigadier General Eduardo Gubat, 6th Infantry Division acting commander, the incident  was the result of the recent push of the military in running after those behind the latest unlawful act.

“Your army along with other government forces will continue to pursue those suspects responsible for the bombings here in our area,” Gubat said.
