Supporters convince Bishop Cubos for mayoral bid, bring New Davao say

AROUND 20 supporters of Bishop Rodolfo Cubos staged a prayer rally in front of Magsaysay Park on Wednesday afternoon to convince the religious leader to run for mayor.

Cubos is the founder of the Love Philippines Movement and Christ the Healer International Missions Movement, a denomination with about 15,000 members in Davao City.

Bro. Johnnel Yecyec, one of the pastors, said they believe there is more to be done even though they recognize the city’s development.

Kabalo na ta sa atong syudad sa Davao naa nay mga improvement, pero we are hoping for more improvement pinaagi sa kinabuhi ni Bishop Cubos, gamiton siya para sa bag-o nga Davao,” Yecyec said.

The pastor shared that one of the prospective platforms of the bishop is free hospitalization, citing the case of Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital where there are no cashiers.

If this will be realized, he said not only the hospitals in the city will be decongested but senior citizens and persons with disabilities no longer have to wait in the queue to avail medical assistance.

He added they are hoping the religious leader will accept their challenge to bring transformation to the city, especially in terms of flooding issues that persist in Jade Valley.

He said “Everyone has the ability to seek a position” in the government refuting the claims that the bishop should remain a religious leader and not be involved in the political landscape.

When asked if the group is prepared to face the Dutertes, who have been ruling the city for more than two decades, he said the bishop’s willingness to serve the people outweighs the politicking.

“Politics is not about the rivalry, it’s about the people and the community and what you can do for them,” he said.

The pastor, however, said the bishop has yet to express he will register his name for the mayoral bid.

He urged Dabawenyos to select leaders who are God-fearing, a quality that every leader should have to best serve their constituents.
