- CTTMO to implement new speed limit next year
THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) will fully enforce City Ordinance 0270-23 or the New Speed Limit Ordinance beginning Jan. 11, 2024.
During the iSpeak forum on Dec. 7, CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said they will work with the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Department of Public Works and Highways to disseminate flyers to vehicle operators and registered owners from Dec. 11 to Jan. 10.
“Ang atoang opisina, magapahigayon og mag-instalar sa mga signages, naa ta’y mga gi-identify, pero dili jud tanan 1,526 ang ibutang. As of now, nag-identify lang usa ta og initially 32 signages aron ma-aware ra ang publiko sa speed limits,” Abude said.
He said open roads such as the Davao-Bukidnon Road, Daang Maharlika/Panabo Boundary, and Carabao Monument Waypark to Binugao Sta. Cruz boundary shall have a maximum allowable speed of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) for private, light vehicles, and motorcycles, while 50 kilometers per hour for trucks, buses, and passenger vans.
CP Garcia Highway (from entrance/exit of Laz Terrazas), Cabantian-Bunawan Road, Gatungan-Callawa Road, Magtuod-Tugbok Road, Tacunan-Waan Areas, and roads of Malagamot, Mudiang, Eliong, Manambulan Tagakpan, and Bayabas Eden will have a maximum allowable speed of 60-kph for private, light vehicles, and motorcycles, while 50-kph for trucks, buses, and passenger vans.
For through streets such as JP Laurel Avenue, corner Roxas Avenue to Pichon Rotunda, Ulas corner to Pichon St., Quirino Avenue, Quimpo Avenue, Quezon Boulevard, Ma-a Road, Bypass Ma-a, Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Sta. Ana Avenue, GE Torres St., Lapu-Lapu St., Leon Garcia, R. Castillo St., Mamay Road, Cabaguio Ave., Dacudao Ave., and other interior roads will have a maximum allowable speed of 40 kph for private, light vehicles, and motorcycles, while 30-kph for trucks, buses, and passenger vans.
City streets or inner roads bounded by Pichon St., Quirino Avenue, Bacaca Road, and Mamay Road will have a maximum allowable speed of 30 kph for private, light vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and passenger vans.
Meanwhile, crowded streets or barangay roads with high-density residential, along school zones, and other traffic generator establishments like malls, churches, and hospitals will have a maximum allowable speed of 20 kph for private, light vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and passenger vans.
The Ordinance shall apply “to all types of motor vehicles driven within the territorial jurisdiction of Davao City and the drivers, operators, and registered owners”.
Police Major Dexter Domingo, TEU head said they procured approximately four speed guns to monitor vehicles along the road.
“The local government already gave us about four-speed guns for our daily operations. This is to ensure na wala talagang mag-violate in that speed limit, and to ensure the road safety ng bawat Dabawenyos,” Domingo said.
Abude emphasized the speed limit ordinance to lessen road crashes, damage to property, injuries, or even death.
