THE SOUTHERN Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) will soon utilize its world-class robotics technology becoming the first government hospital under the Department of Health (DOH) to acquire robotics surgery in Davao City.
SPMC chief Dr. Ricardo Audan said they will inaugurate the robotics technology next year with no exact dates yet for the machine to be readily used in catering patients at SPMC.
SPMC acquired a P350-million robotic surgery machine, the Da Vinci Surgical System, which included training for the doctors.
As of now, 40 doctors have been registered for the robotics training. It will also be operated by two consoles (One for training, and one for actual). Audan clarified the machine can be used in any surgical specialty.
Last July 2 at the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, he shared in an interview that the machine will have less bleeding, less mortality, and less incision. It will also require less personnel as it will be operated by one doctor.
This also helps Davao to be globally competitive in offering advanced medical services and adapting to the digital age.
There are currently four hospitals in the Philippines located in Manila that have robotics technology.
