Serious warning

  • Three suspects meet tragic end in weekend buy-busts

MAYOR Sebastian Duterte’s threat of bloodshed in his war on drugs immediately came true after three suspects who allegedly resisted arrest were killed in separate police buy-bust operations over the weekend.

During his message welcoming the new Davao City Police Office chief on Friday afternoon, Duterte warned drug dealers to leave the city unless they want to be killed.

Kung di mo muhawa di mo muondang patyon tamo (If you don’t leave, I will kill you),” he said.

His words proved prophetic as two men fell at the hands of the police in separate drug entrapment operations.

At around 10:56 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, alias Larry sustained fatal gunshot wounds when he reportedly shot at the arresting officers along Shrine Hills Road, Barangay Matina Crossing.

He was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but did not make it. Police recovered a large sachet of shabu weighing 6.45 grams with an estimated value of P43,860), a .38 caliber revolver without a serial number, and empty bullet casings.

A similar incident occurred at 10:55 p.m. in Purok San Nicolas, Punta Dumalag 1, Barangay 75-A, Matina Aplaya, that claimed the life of suspect Jehurry Dresser. He allegedly fired at Ecoland police officers during a drug transaction.

He was transported to SPMC but succumbed to his injuries.

Several hours later, at 4:16 a.m. on Sunday, alleged city-level target alias Timoy was fatally shot by the Tugbok police officers in Barangay Mintal. Reportedly, the law enforcers returned fire when he shot at them.

He was transported to Holy Spirit Hospital but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. Police recovered a large sachet of shabu weighing 1.5 grams valued at P27,000, a .38 caliber revolver pistol, and P19,000 buy-bust money from the scene.

3 arrested in separate operations

Meanwhile, the Bunawan police arrested Marissa Alfeche Bula, 43, unemployed, a resident of Barangay San Antonio, in a buy-bust operation at Purok Gemini, Barangay Lasang at 5:01 p.m. on Saturday.

Bula sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover officer, leading to her arrest. Confiscated items included alleged shabu weighing 0.33 grams valued at P2,500, a cell phone, and P2,000 buy-bust money.

Elements of Eden police arrested two individuals in Purok 6, San Juan, Barangay Eden, Toril district, at around 4 p.m. of the same day.

The suspects were identified as Francis Roland Eba, 30, unemployed, resident of Purok 5, Venus Street, Barangay Crossing Bayabas, and Nikolay Ocaya Jacobo, 22, landscaper, and a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Marapangi, Toril.

Police seized approximately 0.88 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P5,984.

The arrested individuals face charges of violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
