Serial burglars

  • DCPO identifies persons of interest in series of break-ins

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) has confirmed they already identified persons of interest (POIs) in connection with recent burglary incidents of commercial establishments in Bajada, Agdao, and Panacan.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon, speaking at the Davao Peace and Security Press briefing on Wednesday, said the two identified POIs are currently under investigation.

Tuazon said the investigation is based on a list of individuals known for illegal and criminal activities within the jurisdiction of the Bajada Police Station.

According to records, four businesses were robbed on Sept. 8, 2024. These were the New Botica Conception, Chan Building, Athalias Cakes, Josmef Pharmacy Incorporated. A day after, Josmef Medical Corp. and Red Ribbon Bakeshop also reported break-ins.

She said the investigation is still ongoing but they suspected one group that might be behind the incidents. The perpetrators destroyed the padlocks and looted the establishments with cash and valuables exceeding P100,000.

“But this will be based on the investigation that will be conducted. There will be coordination for the other police provincial offices because there might be a possibility that Tha ransack incident might have happened in other areas,” she added.

Tuazon added, “We are always reminding the establishment owners that CCTV is important when it comes to  investigation since it has a big impact so that we can easily get information from the suspects so that we can identify and the investigation will be done easily.”

The police have not ruled out the possibility that more than two individuals are responsible considering the number of establishments targeted. Tuazon said they are in the process of gathering CCTV footage from different locations to help pin down the burglars.

The report said that padlocks were destroyed in the four establishments resulting in the theft of cash and several items.
