THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) and the 10th Infantry Division have assured residents that there are no security threats in the city following the May 12, 2025, national and local elections, despite former President Rodrigo Duterte’s election as mayor while detained at The Hague.
The assurance comes as concerns might arise given the former president’s strong stance on law and order, particularly his “war on drugs” and anti-terrorism campaigns during his presidential term.
“As of now, we have not seen or received any assessment from Task Force Davao regarding any threats in the political landscape,” Major Ruben Gadut, the 10th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief, told reporters during the Davao Peace and Security press briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, May 14.
“But of course, our troops remain deployed. This is not a new situation. The 10ID has a physical presence in the city proper through Task Force Davao, and that unit is sufficient to address any eventualities,” Major Gadut said.
Similarly, DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero stated, “The Davao City Police Office is actively monitoring the security situation in Davao. So far, in coordination with other security forces in the city, we have not received any threat or information indicating a threat to Davao City.”
“Our ongoing partnership within the city remains strong, especially now that former President Rodrigo Duterte has won, despite his presence in The Hague. We assure our fellow Davaoeños that the Davao City Police Office’s top priority is the security of everyone,” Caballero said.
“This is the assurance of our City Police Director, Colonel Hansel Marantan, that under his leadership, the Davao City Police Office will ensure the security of all,” she added.
